Carter Mario Awards Arrive Alive Scholarships
Carter Mario Injury Lawyers
June 1, 2010
Connecticut’s leading injury law firm, Carter Mario Injury Lawyers, hosted their 5th Annual “Arrive Alive” Scholarship Program this spring. This year the law firm focused the program on teen distracted driving prevention, and awarded $10,000 in scholarships. The scholarships will go to 10 high school seniors from across the state who have shown academic excellence as well as demonstrated their understanding of the consequences and dangers of texting and using a cell phone while driving. Students were asked to submit presentations to the firm to help educate their friends and other teens on the grave dangers of getting behind the wheel and texting. Each winning student received a $1,000 scholarship from Carter Mario and was honored at an event held at the Offices of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers in Milford, CT on May 20th.
This year's winners are:
- Angela Guilfoyle of Wethersfield High School
- Ariana Molokwu of New Britain High School
- Brittany Golding of Thomas Snell Weaver High School, Hartford
- Connor Shugrue of Seymour High School
- Daniel Davidson of Nonnewaug High School, Woodbury
- Lauren Roddy of Mark T Sheehan High School, Wallingford
- Laurence Dortenzio of Notre Dame High School, West Haven
- Matthew Solomon of Coginchaug Regional High School, Durham
- Melinda Luth of Amity High School, Woodbridge
- Sebastien Garraud of Bassick High School, Bridgeport
The “Arrive Alive” Scholarship Program is a part of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers’ crusade against the epidemic of distracted driving by motorist in the state of Connecticut. The firm also launched a series of innovative bus ads aimed at making motorist more aware of the dangers of distracted driving in February of this year.
Since the scholarship program’s inception in 2006, Carter Mario Injury Lawyers has awarded over $34,000.00 in scholarship money to graduating high school seniors in Connecticut. The Arrive Alive Scholarship program’s importance is strengthened by the striking fact that an estimated 8 in 10 drivers do in fact use their cell phones (despite the laws) while behind the wheel. Add that to the fact that over 1 million people are chatting behind the wheel at any given moment in America, as reported by the National Safety Council; and it is now fair to say that the combination of texting and cell phone use while driving is becoming as lethal as getting behind the wheel intoxicated.
"Our goal is to help educate the young people of Connecticut in making smart decisions regarding safe driving practices “, says firm CEO Carter Mario. “If we can save one life, it is worth it. If we do nothing, auto accidents and tragedies resulting from teen’s texting and talking on their cell phone while driving will continue to rise here in Connecticut. We need to come together to put an end to this all too common problem on our highways and streets now. This scholarship program is our firm taking a stance on distracted driving and cell phone usage by our state’s teens."
