Woman held responsible in Connecticut wrongful death of infant

Posted on January 17, 2008 by admin

January 15, 2008

A woman gave several different explanations and versions to officials before admitting to what happened in the Hartford wrongful death of the child she was babysitting, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Connecticut wrongful death happened Friday when a woman was babysitting a 5-year-old boy and his 18-month-old brother for $2 an hour. At first, she blamed the death of the youngest boy on her 3-year-old son and later admitted she had zipped him up in a sleeping bag, slung him over her shoulder, and jogged around the apartment with him that way.

She said the boy hit a door frame, which caused her to lose her balance and bump him into the door frame again. His head injuries rendered him brain dead and the mother and grandmother of the child chose to take him off of life support on Saturday.

Fire marshals gives tips to avoid Connecticut fire and burn injuries

Posted on December 14, 2007 by admin

December 14, 2007

Warnings and safety tips are coming from local fire marshals and the National Fire Protection Association in the hopes of deterring Connecticut fire and burn injuries this holiday season, reports the Republican American.

A fire marshal said that as fuel prices increase, people will very likely begin turning to alternate heat sources like wood burning stoves and fireplaces, where poorly maintained chimneys could cause a home to catch fire and residents may suffer from severe Connecticut fire and burn injuries.

Fire officials also warn that space heaters were the most deadly of all ignition sources for Connecticut fire and burn injuries—they accounted for one-third of all heating fires in 2005 and three-fourths of all fire-related deaths.
