CarterCares is using our Facebook page to help local causes. Each month, our firm features a different charitable organization on our Facebook page. For every person that “Likes” our Facebook page that month, we make a donation to the featured cause or charity.
CarterCares allows Connecticut residents the chance to support causes that are important to them. It also allows our law firm to show our appreciation for the charities that help our community every day.
November Charity of the Month: ALS Association
CarterCares is proud to partner with The ALS Association, Connecticut Chapter as our Facebook Charity of the Month for November 2015. This amazing organization not only provides emotional support to those suffering from the disease, but also provides them with the necessary medical equipment; drives them to doctors appointments; and conducts research in the hopes of one day finding a cure for this disease. This organization holds a special place in our hearts as the father of one of our own staff members suffered from this disease. For every new like we receive on our Facebook page during the month of November, we’ll donate $1 to The ALS Association.
Despite the cold and rainy weather, our CarterCares team had a great time competing in Warrior Dash New England 2015 at Camp Laurelwood in Madison. The event is a 3.2 mile, 12-obstacle course which raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Watch our GoPro Warrior Dash video below to see what type of obstacles our warriors faced!
October 2015 Charity of the Month: Sickle Cell Disease Association
CarterCares is proud to support the Sickle Cell Disease Association as our October 2015 Charity of the Month. The mission of the Association is to address issues related to the disease, while getting support for better treatment and research. To help raise awareness, our staff participated in the Sickle Cell Disease Association’s 24th Annual Walkathon in East Rock Park, in New Haven.
Walk To End Alzheimer’s
Our CarterCares team in Hartford was excited to participate in the 2015 Walk To End Alzheimer’s. The walk is held annually in more than 600 communities and nearly 1/2 million people participate every year. Funds raised from the walk help with research efforts and advanced care for those affected.
August 2015 Charity of the Month: K9 First Responders
CarterCares is proud to partner with K9 First Responders as our Charity of the Month for August 2015. This organization’s amazing specially trained dog teams provide emotional support, aid and comfort to victims of disaster, catastrophe or violence. For every new like we receive on our Facebook page during the month of August, we’ll donate $1 to K9 First Responders.
June 2015 Charity of the Month: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
CarterCares is excited to partner with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation(CFF) as our June 2015 Charity of the Month. The CFF’s mission is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide those suffering from the disease the opportunity to live full, productive lives. To help raise awareness, our staff participated in the CFF’s Great Strides Walk in West Haven. Additionally, for every new like we receive on our Facebook page, we’ll donate $1 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
May 2015 Charity of the Month: Connecticut Food Bank
CarterCares is proud to support the Connecticut Food Bank as our May 2015 Charity of the Month. The Connecticut Food Bank provides food and resources to nearly 700 community-based food programs within our state. During the month of May, we will collect food at all of our office locations throughout the state. Additionally, we will donate $1 to the organization for every new like we receive on our Facebook page during the month.
CarterCares Scholarship Banquet 2015
Carter Mario Injury Lawyers held our Annual Scholarship Banquet, at which time we awarded 10 standout high school seniors each with a $2,000 scholarship to college. Winners were chosen based on a number of factors including their academic achievement, community involvement, and projects based on the topic of Distracted Driving. We consider ourselves so lucky to be able to give back to the youth in our community through our CarterCares Scholarship program.
Great Strides CF Walk 2015
CarterCares was excited to participate in the Great Strides CF Walk. The cause was close to home for one of our staff who has a good friend battling Cystic Fibrosis. It was our honor to meet such a strong woman and to raise awareness about the disease.
April 2015 Charity of the Month: Dress For Success
Our CarterCares Charity of the Month for April 2015 is Dress For Success: An organization that helps empower women by providing professional attire to help them secure employment. CarterCares is proud to partner with Dress For Success and help support the organization by donating $1 for every new like we receive on our Facebook page during the month. We will also be collecting clothing throughout our 6 office locations to donate.
Walk MS 2015
CarterCares was happy to take part in Walk MS for the third year in a row, to benefit families fighting Multiple Sclerosis. We love being able to give back and show our support for such a great cause year-after-year.
March of Dimes 2015
CarterCares participated in the March of Dimes Walk in Hartford. It’s always a great experience bringing our families out to support such a worthy cause and to help raise awareness so that more families are able to raise healthy, happy babies.
CarterCares Scholarship Banquet 2014
Carter Mario Injury Lawyers had their first official CarterCares Scholarship Banquet featuring the new topic of bullying and awarded $20,000 in scholarships. Ten high school students were chosen who created an effective presentation encouraging their peers to take a stand against bullying in their schools and community.
Carter Speaks to Students at East Haddam High School
Carter Mario was invited by East Haddam High School to educate the students on the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. He spoke to teens and their families about the serious and potentially fatal consequences of underage drinking, Connecticut’s social host laws, and distracted driving statistics.
March of Dimes 2014
CarterCares participated in the 2014 March of Dimes walk in Hartford. Together we marched for babies to end premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. We were so happy to be a part of such an amazing cause with a foundation who has done so much for the community.
Walk MS 2014
CarterCares was pleased to be part of Walk MS for the second year in a row, to benefit families fighting MS, and to aid Multiple Sclerosis research. We met so many amazing people and are proud to have been a part of such an inspirational event. We not only walked but passed out Carter Waters to keep participants hydrated. There was a huge turnout at the event and everyone who attended did an awesome job.
This Month’s Featured Charity: Kids Empowered by Your Support
CarterCares is proud to support Kids Empowered by Your Support by donating $2 for every person that likes our Facebook page. This great local charity is designed to bring instrument lessons and group music instruction to under-served youth in the Bridgeport community.
From literacy preparation and academic achievement to performance ability and community building, music is about education. Music may be the reason a child stays in school. It teaches children how to excel and helps prepare them to be productive citizens. Music instruction should be a part of every child’s education — all children deserve this opportunity.
Little Elves for Little Angels
CarterCares was proud to support Little Elves for Little Angels in December 2013 by donating $2 for every person that liked our Facebook page. This great local charity is designed to demonstrate to children the joy and value of giving to others through sponsorship of other children in need.
The Angel Program pairs sponsors with children whose families are experiencing financial hardship. It is a wonderful way to teach your own children the spirit of the holiday, or a fun way to celebrate with your friends and co-workers.
Connecticut’s V.A. Hospitals
CarterCares was proud to support the V.A. Connecticut Healthcare System in November 2013 by donating three toiletry items for every person that likes our Facebook page. Veterans in our state’s V.A. hospitals needed items like shampoo, toothbrushes, and shaving supplies. Giving back to Connecticut’s heroes was as easy as liking our facebook page.
Honoring America’s Veterans with quality health care services, Connecticut’s V.A. hospitals are part of the largest integrated health care system in the United States. V.A. Connecticut encompasses an inpatient facility and Ambulatory Care Center in West Haven; an Ambulatory Care Center in Newington; and six primary care Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Connecticut Food Bank
CarterCares was proud to support Connecticut Food Bank in October 2013 by feeding two people for one day for every person that liked our Facebook page. Connecticut Food Bank works with companies, community organizations, and individuals to solicit, transport and distribute donated food. By soliciting the food industry for products that will not sell (items that are wholesome but might have some cosmetic flaw), Connecticut Food Bank reduces waste and feeds people. Their mission is to provide nutritious food to people in need throughout Connecticut.
In addition to feeding two people for a day for every person that liked our Facebook page, the staff of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers had a “Food Fight” to see which group of staff can collect the most food for Connecticut Food Bank. The entire firm was divided into three teams, and each team is filling up many boxes with non-perishable food items. We raised over 2,300 meals.
The Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County
CarterCares was proud to support The Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County in September 2013 by donating two dollars for every person that likes our Facebook page. The Center provides free and confidential services to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, and child abuse in Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull. Every year, their volunteers help hundreds of families across the area.
Their mission is strengthening women and families, and to eliminate violence and abuse through education, intervention, advocacy, and community collaboration.
New Haven Reads
CarterCares was proud to support New Haven Reads in August 2013 by donating two student notebooks for every person that liked our Facebook page. New Haven Reads helps anyone in the greater New Haven area improve their reading skills, and foster a love of reading. Their volunteers are amazing people, who tutor anyone who wants to be a better reader. They offer one-on-one tutoring, as well as a large Book Bank to choose books that are of interest to them. Working in partnership with families and the community, New Haven Reads envisions a Greater New Haven in which every child has the opportunity to master reading and increase the odds of becoming a successful adult.
Folks On Spokes Bicycle Ride and Fitness Walk
The Milford office led the CarterCares team on bikes and on foot for the 2013 Folks on Spokes ride and fitness walk to benefit the Bridges Mental Health Center. Our CarterCares group divided up between walkers and cyclists to raise funds for this great local organization. This event is all about raising awareness, funds and support for friends, family and neighbors on their road to recovery in the local area. It was a beautiful day outside, and there were hundreds of cyclists and walkers that came together for Bridges. We had a great time, and we look forward to being part of this event again next year!
Petit Family Foundation Fitness Walk
The Waterbury office has proudly led the CarterCares team for this event since 2008, and this year we had a great crew walk for this important cause. The Petit Family Foundation Fitness Walk honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives. The Petit Family Foundation’s funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses, and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.
Walk for Autism
The New Haven office led the CarterCares team for this fundraiser for the Connecticut Chapter of Autism Services & Resources. We were happy to join forces with Matt’s Crew, a team that is led by New Haven Administrative Assistant Sue Apuzzo’s son Matt, who has autism. It was a beautiful day, and we were happy to walk with so many other great organizations to support this important cause.
Special Olympics Connecticut
CarterCares was proud to kick-off the Facebook Charity of the Month program by supporting Special Olympics Connecticut by donating $2 for every person that liked our Facebook page. Special Olympics Connecticut works to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. They also work to give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Jeans For A Cause Fridays
Supporting charitable causes of our staff’s choosing, our Jeans For A Cause Friday program allows our staff members to donate $2 per week so they may wear jeans to work on Friday. You’ll notice on Fridays that any staff member wearing jeans on a Friday is also wearing a circular sticker of the emblem on the left to show their support of this charity campaign. Each quarter, we total up all of the donations collected and donate those funds to organizations like The Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Clara Barton Camp, to name just a few.
Best of Waterbury Polls
Each year, The Waterbury Observer conducts a poll of their readers to find the best businesses throughout the greater Waterbury area. Our firm is truly honored to be selected by the people of Waterbury once again as the “Best Law Firm” in 2013! Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Once again, Carter Cares participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Bushnell Park in Hartford . This event is personal for several of our staff members that have had family members with Alzheimer’s. It’s become an annual tradition for our Hartford office to lead the Carter Cares team for this event. Collectively, the event raised over $147,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Connecticut Chapter. We are proud to support them!
On September 22nd, Carter Cares was proud to sponsor our huge team of staff members who worked their way through tough obstacles to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in this year’s Warrior Dash! Congratulations to all of our staff, their family members, and their friends that participated as part of Carter Cares.
Carter Cares participated in the MADD Dash 5K in Stratford On Saturday, August 18th at Short Beach in Stratford. Our Bridgeport office lead the Carter Cares team this time around. We are proud to support Mothers Against Drunk Driving!
2012 Petit Family Foundation 5K Road Race and Fitness Walk — July 15

This is an event that is near and dear to our Waterbury office, who headed up our team at this event. To help support their walk, we pledged $1 for every ‘like’ we received on Facebook during the week of the race. Arrive Alive Scholarship Program
Carter Mario is pleased to announce the 2012 Arrive Alive Scholarship Program. We are committed to supporting higher education opportunities as well as promoting programs that deal with the prevention of drunk driving and distracted driving. We awarded $1,000 each to 10 Connecticut high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college or university next fall.

Carter Cares was out in Bristol for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on June 8th. Staff members walked in honor of a 9-year-old boy that passed away earlier this year from a rare form of bone cancer. Adding up the funds that Carter Cares raised along with the efforts of all of the other participants, the Relay For Life was able to raise over $57,000 in the fight against Cancer! We were proud to be part of this event!
Mike King, who works at all of our offices, went down to Washington DC with family and friends to participate in Rolling Thunder 2012 outside of the Pentagon. Rolling Thunder brings together veterans from across America on their motorcycles to raise awareness of Prisoners of War Missing In Action, and to help veterans across the nation. Of course, Mike and his crew we’re glad to sport Get Carter gear at the event.
Carter Cares recently donated over $600 to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation! Our staff donated the cash $2 at a time over the past few months and, before we knew it, we had a nice size donation ready to go. Carrie and Ann from the Connecticut Chapter of the Komen Foundation came by the Hartford office to pick up the check, and some Get Carter Gear, too!
Carter Mario Injury Lawyers was happy to be a part of a special Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association benefit called “Look Who’s Cookin’ Too!” to benefit Connecticut’s Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Carter Mario had a tasty signature cake that was auctioned off to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Carter’s cake was inspired by his boat!

Holiday Gifts for New Haven School Children
We’re proud of our own Peggy Pinto and her husband Tom for making the holidays brighter for a lot of boys and girls at the Fair Haven School in New Haven. Peggy and Tom brought as many gifts as they could for the boys and girls at the school, including toys, clothes, coats, hats, gloves, and some Get Carter! gear, too.
Fall Coat Drive
We collected more than 125 coats for men, women, and children and donated them to The Clothes Closet on North Street in Milford.
Free Taxi Rides with Get Carter App
Carter Mario is offering FREE taxi rides to people who have our Get Carter! app on their Androids or iPhones. If you’re in need of a safe ride home, press the “Call a Taxi Cab” button on the app, and it will dial an answering service. When the operator answers, say who you are, tell him or her your current location, and provide your home address. There are no questions asked and no out-of-pocket expenses for you.
Milford Eagles Junior Pee Wee 2 Football
Congratulations to Coach O and the Milford Eagles for being the New England Region Champions! The team will be heading to Disney World in Florida for an opportunity to play in the National Championship Superbowl. We’re proud to sponsor the Milford Eagles Junior Pee Wee 2 Football Team.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Members of our Hartford office participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raised awareness and funds for the Connecticut chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to continue its care, support, and research for those affected by the disease.

We participated in Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night® Walk in New Haven. The event helped raise funds and awareness for those who are battling blood cancers.
Waterbury Office Helps After-School Program
Our Waterbury office donated money to help children in the Waterbury area who attend the after-school program at the St. Margaret Willow Plaza NRZ Community Center on Elmwood Avenue. The free program provides after-school care for all children.
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®
Several Carter Mario employees and their friends and family walked at the beach in West Haven to raise money for the American Diabetes Association during the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. The funds raised went to diabetes research.
Carter Mario Speaks to Students at Foran High School
Carter Mario was invited by Foran High School to talk to incoming freshmen about the dangers of underage drinking and distracted driving. He spoke to more than 250 teens and their parents about the serious and sometimes fatal consequences of underage drinking, Connecticut’s social host laws, and distracted driving statistics, to name a few.
Carter Mario Participates in the 28th Annual National Night Out
Carter Mario participated in the 28th Annual National Night Out in Hamden. This event promotes crime and drug prevention awareness programs while strengthening police-community partnerships. The law firm hosted a helmet safety booth, handed out bumper stickers about texting while driving, and gave away T-shirts and hats.
Waterbury Office Supports Petit Family Foundation
Our Waterbury office participated in the GE 5k Petit Family Foundation Road Race. Carter Mario Sponsors East Coast Elite AAU Basketball Team
Attorney Carla Minniefield donated to the East Coast Elite AAU basketball team for jersey expenses. Her godson and nephew play on the team and traveled to Hampton, Virginia, to compete at the national level, representing Connecticut in their age group.
Carter Mario Supports Military
Carter Mario sent Get Carter! T-shirts and hats as well as nonperishable treats to Lt. Col. Scott “Gripper” Brenton’s squadron in Iraq. Scott flies an F-16 with the Syracuse Air National Guard and has been deployed to Iraq several times.
Milford Office Donates Gifts to Foster Kids
Our Milford office helped the Community Action Agency host an event for 50 foster kids at Amity Bowling Lanes in New Haven. We had the privilege of collecting and donating gifts for their Christmas party.
Bridgeport Office Supports Local Veterans
Our Bridgeport office “adopted” Homes for the Brave, a transitional housing facility that offers case management and vocational services for male veterans. We contributed sweat suits, pajamas, thermal clothing, and socks so these veterans had presents to open during the holidays. Our Bridgeport office plans to sponsor a future Home for the Brave dedicated to serving female veterans. Attorney Carla Minniefield also will be helping the veterans group by giving pro bono legal advice throughout the year.
Hartford Office Helps Client’s Loss from Fire
Upon hearing about a client who lost everything in a fire, our Hartford office made a donation to Gifts of Love, the organization that helped her rebuild her life.
Attorney Bottinick Shortens Last Name to “Nick” for a Day
Santa Claus, otherwise known as St. Nick, was played by attorney Andrew Bottinick at this year’s tree lighting in Naugatuck. Residents who came out for the tree lighting enjoyed sleigh rides, a visit with Santa, a bonfire, and a presentation from the Mayor of Naugatuck.
Waterbury Office Collects Toys for Area Children
Our Waterbury office helped local children by purchasing toys from their wish lists through the REACH-OUT Food, Furniture and Clothing Ministry, Inc.

Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk
Members of our Hartford office raised money and participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk at Bushnell Park. The Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support, and research. Visit our Facebook page to see more photos from the event.
Carter Mario Supervisor Raises Awareness for Sickle Cell Disease
Tashona Booker, supervisor at our Milford office, participated in the 19th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Walk with her kids. The walk was held at East Rock Park in New Haven and hosted by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
13th Annual “Helmets for Kids” Campaign
Carter Mario distributed bicycle helmets free of charge to kids in need.
National Night Out
We distributed youth bicycle helmets at the National Night Out festival held in Hamden and New Haven. The event is designed to build community, generate support for anti-crime and drug prevention programs, and strengthen police-community partnerships. We were honored to receive a thank you letter from the city of Hamden.
Carter Mario Goes Green
All of our office locations have been equipped with energy-efficient lighting and recycling receptacles, and each firm employee has committed to reducing, reusing, and recycling paper, plastic, and other carbon products. With each client’s personalized file now available in a digital format, we’re striving not only to reduce our impact on the environment, but also to better the service our clients.
Donation Benefits U.S. Troops and Veterans
Recording artist Jamie Tate launched an innovative sponsorship-based music digital download platform to promote her hit, patriotic single “I’ll Give My All.” We donated $10,000 to Jamie Tate and her label to allow 15,000 veterans and active-duty military personnel in the state of Connecticut to download the single.
Front Office Manager Donates to Locks of Love
Barbara Calabretta, the front office manager at our Waterbury office, is known to staff and clients for her exceptional customer service. Barbara donated 11 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to those suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
Carter Mario Awards Arrive Alive Scholarships
We focused our annual Arrive Alive Scholarship Program on teen distracted driving prevention and awarded $10,000 in scholarships. The scholarships went to 10 high school seniors who have shown academic excellence as well as demonstrated their understanding of the consequences and dangers of distracted driving.
American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life
Our Waterbury office proudly sponsored a team during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event at Crosby High School. Nearly 80 teams turned out for the 24-hour walkathon, which raised $225,000 to help in the fight against cancer.
18th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
We were honored to drive a troop of Brownies during Milford’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. In addition to scouting groups, the parade included local and state dignitaries, this year’s Miss Emerald Isle, and the Milford Irish Heritage Society, among others.
Carter Mario Injury Lawyers Keeps the Community Warm this Winter
Carter Mario teamed up with REACH-OUT Food, Furniture and Clothing Ministry, Inc., for its third annual coat collection, “1,000 Coats for 1,000 Folks.” The members of the firm collected 127 coats for individuals in need.
ReFocus Outreach Ministry
During the holiday season, our Bridgeport office fulfilled a wish list for ReFocus Outreach Ministry, Inc., a residential facility designed to help women redirect their lives from homelessness, substance abuse, and/or incarceration to healthier lifestyles.
Naugatuck Police Department Toy Drive
We teamed up with the Naugatuck Police Department to help make sure all the community’s youngest members had a wonderful Christmas.
“After The Fire” Education Program

Carter Mario, a former college wrestler, attended the prestigious Beast of the East wrestling tournament at the University of Delaware. There, Carter participated in the “Milwaukee Screwdriving Challenge,” which was presented by Milwaukee Tools—he won!
