A Conversation with Chris Cramer
Attorney
Tell us a little bit about yourself on a personal level. What are some of your favorite things to do in your spare time?
I am a Connecticut native, born and raised in East Hampton. I spent a lot of time during the summers at a cottage my parents owned in Cape Cod. I learned to drive at the ripe old age of eight. At that time, my father was a Connecticut State Trooper and would “bend” the rules and let me drive the cruiser. Little did I know he had his hand on the wheel the entire time! I was very involved with karate growing up (obtained a brown belt, one step below black), and I started racing motorcycles at the age of 12. While I was successful in racing, I came to the realization that it was not going to pay my way through life, so I decided to go to law school, which has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I find that I only have spare time on the weekends. I look forward to being able to sleep in (which the older I get, the earlier I get up), and when I do get up there is usually a nice pot of coffee waiting for me along with the morning newspaper. I prefer to be outside, so once the morning coffee is gone, you can find me in the yard working or sitting by the fire pit in the woods or possibly out riding my mountain bike, motorcycle, or quad. I also enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family, friends, dog, and three cats.
How have you integrated your career into your life?
My life now essentially revolves around my career. When I am not at work, I find myself thinking about our cases. I think about what I can or need to do to keep the cases moving forward in order to obtain the best results for our clients. I have also become more aware of not only the way other people drive their vehicles, but also the way I drive my own vehicle. When you see what motor vehicle accidents can do to people on a daily basis, it tends to turn you into a more defensive and diligent driver.
If you could tell a client one thing, what would it be?
To focus on getting better. After being injured as a result of someone else’s misconduct, you have already been through enough. You come to us for a reason, and that reason is for us to take care of everything caused by the responsible party's misconduct; all you need to worry about is listening to your doctors’ advice and getting better.
What is the most important thing you have learned from representing people?
That everyone’s case is unique and needs to be treated that way. Each person who comes to Carter Mario Injury Lawyers not only brings his case, but also his personal life. Everyone has his own job, his own family, his own activities he enjoys doing, etc., and it all needs to be considered and valued when it comes to the attentive representation of his case.
How many people work on a file at Carter Mario Injury Lawyers?
While technically there are four people who work on a file at one time, every single employee at Carter Mario Injury Lawyers works on your file. A client may call in to speak with his lawyer or case manager, who for various reasons, may be unavailable at the time. Rather than wait for a phone call back, that client can speak with anyone else at the firm, who will know exactly what is going on with the file and can answer any question that client has. We work as a team. If you are a Hartford client and are speaking with someone in our Bridgeport, Hartford, Milford, New Britain, and Waterbury office, your concern is our concern, and it will be taken care of no matter whom you speak with.
Your firm is known for customer service. Why does a law firm think that is important?
At our firm, we do not treat our clients like a number or run the business like a factory. To us, each case involves a person who has been injured in some way. That person therefore has already been through enough trauma and stress and deserves to be treated like a person. We take pride in knowing what beverage you prefer, or how many children you have and what their names are, or which sports team you like. We want you to know that not only do you have a law firm that will take care of your case, but also a law firm that legitimately cares about you as a person.
