Arrive Alive Scholarship Program

Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is pleased to announce the 2012 Arrive Alive Scholarship Program. We are committed to supporting higher education opportunities as well as promoting programs that deal with the prevention of drunk driving and distracted driving. Our scholarship program is a combination effort to provide financial assistance for students to pursue their educational goals as well as stressing the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. We will award $1,000 apiece to 10 Connecticut high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college or university next fall.

The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives. The Foundation's funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses, and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.

Northeast Elite Wrestling Center is located in Enfield, CT, and trains young wrestlers. East Coast Elite AAU Basketball Team

Carter Mario Sponsors East Coast Elite AAU Basketball Team

Carter Mario Injury Attorney, Carla Minniefield, made a donation to the East Coast Elite AAU basketball team for jersey expenses. Her godson and nephew each play on the team.

East Coast Elite AAU basketball team is made up of twelve young men ranging in age from nine to thirteen years old, with average age of twelve. In 2010, five of the players placed first for the 5th grade division which ranked them number one in the entire state of Connecticut. This year, most of the players are in sixth grade and all are outstanding students academically. They participated in the state competition the weekend of May 14th and won, thus qualifying them for the nationals. They will travel to Hampton VA for an entire week in July to compete at the national level, representing the state of Connecticut in their age group. There are two dedicated coaches leading the team, Terry Rountree (Lieutenant, New Haven Fire Department) and Will Antrum ( Dean of Students-Hillhouse High School in New Haven). Coach Rountree played Division I Basketball at Boston College and Coach Antrum was All State during high school. Both coaches hail from New Haven.

Lt. Col. Scott Brenton, otherwise known as "Gripper", is seen here holding a "Get Carter!" t-shirt while on duty in Iraq. Scott flies an F-16 with the Syracuse Air National Guard and has been deployed to Iraq several times. Carter Mario Injury Lawyers sent "Get Carter!" t-shirts and hats, as well as non-perishable treats to Scott's squadron in Iraq.

Our Milford office helped Community Action Agency put on an event for about 50 foster kids at Amity Bowling Lanes in New Haven. The Christmas party provided gifts that we had the privilege of collecting and donating. The kids really enjoyed it, and so did we!

Carter Mario's Bridgeport Office Supports Local Veterans

Our Bridgeport Office "adopted" Homes for the Brave, a 46 bed transitional housing facility which also offers intensive case management and vocational services for male Veterans. Our contribution of sweat suits, pajamas, thermals and socks made it possible for the veterans to have presents to open at the Christmas Party held at the facility.

Carter Mario Injury Lawyer, Carla Minniefield, will also be helping this veterans group by giving pro bono legal advice throughout the year, starting in January.

Our Bridgeport Office also plans to adopt a future Home for the Brave that will be added for female soldiers. We will help get the home ready for residence and donate our time helping the women with job searches, preparing resumes, grooming tips, cooking classes, etc.

Members of our Hartford office raised money and participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk on October 3 at Bushnell Park. The Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $300 million for the cause.

19th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Walk

Carter Mario Supervisor Raises Awareness for Sickle Cell Disease

Tashona Booker, supervisor at the Milford office of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers, participated in The 19th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Walk along with her kids. The walk was held at East Rock Park in New Haven and hosted by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Southern, CT, Inc. Approximately 500 attendees participated. The event included a 5k walk as well as a 10k run up the mountain. The youngest to complete the 10k run was 11 years old.

Barbara Calabretta, the front office manager at the Waterbury office of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers, is known to staff and clients for her exceptional customer service. This service extends outside the office as well; Barbara has donated 11 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

This year the law firm focused the program on teen distracted driving prevention, and awarded $10,000 in scholarships. The scholarships will go to 10 high school seniors from across the state who have shown academic excellence as well as demonstrated their understanding of the consequences and dangers of texting and using a cell phone while driving. Students were asked to submit presentations to the firm to help educate their friends and other teens on the grave dangers of getting behind the wheel and texting. Each winning student received a $1,000 scholarship from Carter Mario.

Carter Mario Keeps Community Warm this Winter

Carter Mario teamed up with REACH-OUT Food, Furniture and Clothing Ministry, Inc., for its third annual coat collection, “1,000 Coats for 1,000 Folks.” The members of the firm collected 127 coats for individuals in need.

The coats were given away at United Storage at 560 Bank Street on Saturday, November. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last year, the organization gave away more than 500 coats.

Helmets for Kids Program

As an avid cyclist himself, Carter Mario understands the dangers of being involved in a bicycle accident. Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is concerned with the safety of children everywhere especially when riding a bicycle. According to the CDC, "more than 500,000 children go to hospital emergency rooms or doctors' offices due to bicycle injuries" each year. So as the "safety lawyers," the firm wants to help educate parents and their children on the importance of wearing a helmet for another year of safe riding and fun!

This year Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is making youth helmets available free of charge (while supplies last) through the firm’s community outreach program "CarterCares." Helmets can be picked up at any Carter Mario Injury Lawyers office statewide, in Bridgeport, Hartford, Milford, New Britain, and Waterbury.

Formed in 1972, the Laurel Bicycle Club has a rich history of contribution to the sport of cycling in New England, and to worthy causes in our local communities in South Central Connecticut.

The Laurel Bicycle Club is a USAC licensed club serving the needs of USCF (road) and NORBA (off road) racers, as well as recreational cyclists. Current LBC members provide an extremely broad spectrum of interests and experiences in competitive and non-competitive (recreational) cycling.
