A Conversation with Dana Beyer
Attorney
You were formerly a defense lawyer and litigated numerous cases against Carter Mario Injury Lawyers. What made you join the Carter Mario team?
Over the years, I was always impressed not only by the firm’s attitude towards its clients’ best interests, but also by its preparedness and overall respectful attitude when the attorneys came to court. I can’t tell you how many times attorneys will show up at a pretrial and have no idea who they are representing. Sometimes it was a lack of experience, and sometimes it was that they just didn’t care. Many of these lawyers had never even met their clients until they walked into the courtroom that day. They hadn’t asked the right questions, didn’t have the medical records for the court, and didn't know how the client’s injury really affected their daily lives. Very often, they had not prepared their clients for a deposition, which made it very difficult for the clients, as well as for their cases. Believe it or not, to move some cases forward, I had to help them out with prompting. Not so with Carter Mario Injury Lawyers. They were always prepared and knew their files. I knew I had to be prepared to fight their cases and I was impressed with the way they really seemed to care for their clients and protect their interests. You could tell the clients respected and felt comfortable and confident with them. I knew that when I made my decision to switch over from representing the insurance companies, Carter Mario injury Lawyers was the firm I wanted to join.
You mentioned CMIL does certain things to protect the interests of their clients. What do you mean?
The thing I was most impressed with was their software system. It is as close to fail-proof as you can get. Not only does it prompt you when a statute is getting ready to blow, but it directs the firm’s case managers and attorneys to continually update and review each client’s file so that no opportunity to maximize the value of the case is lost, and no file is kept from moving forward in an efficient manner.
What are you most enjoying now that you are working for the right side?
Working and getting to know people. In my prior legal profession, I represented the insurance companies and had little interaction with the human side. It was not unusual in my job for me to call and leave messages and never get calls back. Everything was so impersonal. It was frustrating beyond words. I love that at Carter Mario Injury Lawyers, calling our clients back is of such importance that we buy them lunch if we don’t return their call that same day.
Is it helpful having been a defense lawyer?
Very much so. I know what they are thinking! Been there, done that.
Tell me about your personal life. Where did you grow up and how does that effect your life today?
I grew up in rural New York in the small town of Glenville. Growing up in the country with your closest neighbor half a mile away made it necessary to be dependable to both your family and friends since there was little availability to the resources of the city. I plowed driveways (long ones), fed dogs, watched houses, and was always available to lend a hand. I believe that those values have followed me into the practice of law. It is important for me to serve my clients with the utmost of service and skill.
Being a country boy, I take it you enjoy being outdoors?
Absolutely! In my spare time, I take my kids fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and dirt biking. We have a family cabin in Upstate New York, and we love to get away and play outdoors, no matter what the season. I also love baseball. From a very young age, I have not missed a World Series game, ever. I was fortunate enough to take my son to the last game at Yankee Stadium and watch A-Rod hit the last grand slam at the stadium. It was an exciting moment.
