Merck & Co. Will Shell Out $4.85 Billion in Drug Injury Lawsuits

$4.85 billion will be paid out for drug injury lawsuits by Merck & Co. for its painkiller, Vioxx, according to the
Hartford Courant. The painkiller was found by researchers to double the risk of patients for heart attack and stroke and was pulled from the market on Sept. 30, 2004.

26,600 drug injury lawsuits represented 47,000 drug injury victims in suits against the company.
