East Hartford Teen Drowns in High School Swimming Pool

The drowning of a 15-year-old high school freshman has rocked the town of East Hartford, Connecticut. According to reports from WTNH 8 News, the accident happened during a gym class at East Hartford High School last Wednesday around noon.

Although the events surrounding the incident have been kept fairly quiet by school officials and staff, it has been made clear that the student, along with around 30 others, was under the supervision of a gym teacher when the boy was found submerged in the water. That teacher attempted to give CPR until paramedics arrived and took the teen to Hartford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The state medical examiner's office confirmed this morning that the teen died as a result of asphyxia by submersion. Detectives and school officials are still investigating the incident.

CBS News reported that while an estimated 10 people per day drown in pools, many of those accidents occur when lifeguards and others supervising is just feet away.

Being able to prove that a victim’s death was the result of improper supervision from a responsible party can be vital in this type of wrongful death lawsuit.
