On July 4th, 1776 the Thirteen Colonies of America declared their independence from Britain, eventually leading to the formation of the United States. Since then, people throughout the U.S. have celebrated this national holiday and displayed their national pride.
Popular activities on the 4th and days surrounding it include watching fireworks and attending parades, barbeques, or parties. However, in all this excitement, it’s important people keep safety a top priority.
Connecticut’s Firework Laws
Connecticut is extremely strict when it comes to fireworks – and for good reason. According to the National Safety Council, in 2017, eight people died and over 12,000 were injured badly enough to require medical treatment after firework-related incidents.
CT law states that fireworks are not allowed for use by non-professional, non-licensed users. As for sparklers and fountains, they are allowed to be sold, but may not legally be sold to or used by those under the age of 16. Violation of these laws can result in hefty fines. For more information on Connecticut’s laws surrounding firework use, you may visit CT.gov’s site.
