At this year's Annual CarterCares Scholarship Banquet we honored six remarkable young adults who each shared with us an organization they are passionate about and showed us they truly understand that life isn't just about what you can accomplish for yourself, but also what you can do for others.
This year marked the 11th year that our CarterCares Scholarship Program has been underway. In previous years, we asked Connecticut graduating seniors to create a project based on the topics of drunk or distracted driving, but this year we decided to shift the focus to community outreach.
Students were required to create a project based on a charity or organization that they are passionate about. The applications we received were outstanding; so much so that we decided to increase the number of scholarships awarded this year from five to six!
Each student was honored with a personalized plaque, a citation from Attorney General George Jepsen, and special guest Ryan Kristafer from WTNH's Connecticut Style even stopped by to congratulate them!
The following are our 2016 CarterCares Scholarship Winners:
Simone Bell-Dennis, Hamden High School
Nicole Burley, RHAM High School
William Cotto Jr., Notre Dame High School
Rachel Grande, Valley Regional High School
Katherine Ross, Waterbury Arts Magnet School
Aaron Virkler, Ellington High School
