Studies have shown that rider inexperience is a leading cause of Connecticut Motorcycle Accidents today. In fact, a large portion of riders who are involved in collisions do not have a license endorsement to ride motorcycles and even more have never received any sort of training before taking to the roads.

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents that are caused by rider inexperience, the state of Connecticut has created a program aimed at educating riders on how to safely and properly operate motorcycles.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation holds several sessions per year for two different rider courses. One is based on giving new riders the information they will need in order to receive their motorcycle endorsement on their license, while the other class is aimed at giving experienced riders new techniques to stay safe while on the road. An added bonus to completing the course is a 10 percent discount on motorcycle insurance rates for all participants.

The Connecticut Personal Injury Attorneys with Carter Mario Injury Lawyers say that taking a rider education course isn’t the only way motorcyclists can keep themselves safe on the road. Wearing a helmet also plays a vital role in safety.

While laws in Connecticut allow motorcyclists who are over the age of 18 years old to operate without a helmet, studies have shown that wearing this piece of equipment can reduce the chances of death in a crash by as much as 50 percent.
