August 8, 2011

Roadside memorials next to barkless tree is all that remains following the tragic accident that took the life of a young driver last Thursday morning. According to an article released by the website, newstimes.com, a 16-year-old girl was driving in a black, 2008 Land Rover through a residential area along Keeler Drive, when she lost control of the vehicle. The SUV then left the road and struck a tree. The popular young athlete was declared dead at the scene of the crash.

Ridgefield Police Department spokesman, Captain Daniel Ryan, said the department is unsure of the exact cause of the crash, but are certain that speed definitely played a contributing role in the crash. The Department is still investigating exactly how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.

Statistics compiled by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute shows that 21 percent of serious teen driver crashes were due to driving too fast for road conditions. Also, 88 percent of speeding related fatalities occurred on roadways that were not interstate highways.

The Connecticut Auto Accident Attorneys with Carter Mario Injury Lawyers encourage parents of new teen drivers to discuss the importance of safe driving habits with their children, such as, always wearing a safety belt and obeying the posted speed limits on roads. A simple, yet serious, discussion with your child may save his or her life one day.
