An accident at a Torrington, Massachusetts, home left a 16-year-old boy with serious burn injuries earlier this week. NBC-Connecticut reports the incident took place this past Thursday afternoon at a residence on Palmer Bridge Street.

The Torrington Police Department indicates the boy was burning debris in a backyard fire pit with two other teens when the victim attempted to accelerate the burn by throwing lighter fluid from a gasoline can onto the flames. The container caught fire and exploded, leaving the teen with severe burns across his chest, arms, legs, and neck. Neighbors were able to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher and immediately called for rescue crews, who airlifted the victim to a nearby hospital. He remains at the facility, hospitalized in stable condition.

Carter Mario, a Connecticut Burn Injury Lawyer, says that reports from the American Burn Association show that as many as 3,500 lives are lost each year in the United States due to fire and burn injuries. Another 45,000 individuals are hospitalized due to serious burns, while 450,000 Americans seek medical treatment for burn injuries.

The Connecticut Personal Injury Lawyers with Carter Mario Injury Lawyers explain these injuries can often lead to serious disabilities for which a victim may have a right to compensation. That is why the firm urges anyone who has sustained a serious burn injury to explore their legal options by discussing your case with a qualified attorney immediately.
