The winners of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles’ (DMV) video contest have been announced. An article from the West Hartford Patch explained how three teams from a local high school had placed in the top ten entries to the contest.

More than 500 were submitted to this year’s “From the Driver’s Seat to the Director’s Chair” contest. Participants were asked to create a public service announcement that educates the public on the importance of driving safely. The aim of the contest is to reduce the number of Connecticut Car Accidents involving teens.

Willimantic’s Arts at the Capitol Theatre took first place in the contest, which consisted of a $5,000 grand prize. Second place was awarded to a Madison local. He was given a $4,000 consolation prize.

The graphic design and photography classes from Halls High School garnished quite a bit of the days attention though, taking third, fourth, and fifth place prizes. Their placement in the contest yielded participants a total of $6,000 in prizes.

A panel of judges, who included the state Governor and Attorney General, as well as several business executives and highway safety advocates selected the winners. The contest was funded by a $15,000 donation from the Travelers “Claims U” facility in Windsor, Connecticut.

The Connecticut Personal Injury Attorneys with Carter Mario Injury Lawyers hold a similar contest each year that gives a $2,000 scholarship to 10 winning participants. The firm encourages students to look into the contest and consider entering.
